Are You Still Using The WordPress Mobile App?

Are You Still Using The WordPress Mobile App?

Before I go into full details, I want to let everyone know that this blog post is not about leaving the WordPress mobile app and switching over to the Jetpack mobile app.

In a nutshell, this blog post aims to find out people’s reasons for sticking with the WordPress mobile app (After all, people have every right to continue using it if they want to).

So, without further ado, it is time to do a deep exploration of this topic.

You Are Probably One Of Those People Who Do The Majority Of their Blogging On A Computer

I can relate to doing the majority of my blogging on my laptop computer.

The only time I use the Jetpack mobile app to blog is for testing purposes (I give all of the beta versions of the Jetpack mobile app a test run).

So, in my case, I am not heavily caught up in using mobile apps to blog (If I blogged solely on my smartphone, the situation might have been entirely different).

In all honesty, people who do the majority of the blogging via their computers are not going to find themselves all getting carried away with the affairs of the WordPress mobile app or the Jetpack mobile app. They will use them as tools to blog on the go or as tools to utilize on their smartphones in case something dire takes place with their computers.

It Might Be A Case Of “Familiarity Breeds Comfort”

Some of you were probably using the WordPress mobile app for years and do not see the need to migrate over to the Jetpack mobile app.

You are one of those bloggers who do not use the Reader and find WordPress notifications to be a bit annoying.

If you were one of those people who blogged over on Blogger, you grew accustomed to not having any Reader functionality or notifications on the Blogger mobile app. Therefore, the removal of the Jetpack features from the WordPress mobile app is no big deal for you. All you truly care about is publishing blog posts and nothing else.

The God’s/Goddess’s truth is that not every WordPress blogger is keen on interacting with the members of their WordPress community.

And, those who interact with the members of their WordPress community do not use the Reader; what they do instead is visit the blogs of their fellow bloggers directly by typing in the website addresses into their web browsers.

You Are Afraid Of Using The Jetpack Mobile App

You are probably one of those bloggers who are afraid that all of their blog posts are going to disappear if they migrate to the Jetpack mobile app.

To be straightforward, some bloggers had issues with the migration while the migration process went smoothly for many bloggers.

By the way, Automattic recommends that you see to it that you are using the latest version of the WordPress mobile app before migrating to the Jetpack mobile app.

Guess what happens when you are using an older version of the WordPress mobile app and you attempt to mitigate to the Jetpack mobile app?

If you said, “You would end up experiencing technical issues, ” you would be correct.

Failure to follow instructions will result in disaster.

Back in August 2022, I installed the Jetpack mobile app on my smartphone. At the time, the WordPress mobile app and the Jetpack mobile app were almost identical; the WordPress mobile app, of course, had blue highlights and the WordPress logo, while the Jetpack mobile app had green highlights, the Jetpack logo, a more detailed Stats area and the daily WordPress prompts on the homepage.

In my case, the Jetpack mobile app worked better (It did not freeze as often as the WordPress mobile app).

Since the Jetpack mobile app worked better, I ended up deleting the WordPress mobile app from off of my smartphone (And, I never looked back).

By the way, Automattic advises against having both the WordPress mobile app and the Jetpack mobile app on your smartphone at the same time because it could cause some compatibility issues if you use both (It is either one or the other).

If you have doubts about whether or not the migration process is going to go smoothly, log out of the WordPress mobile app and install the Jetpack mobile app and log yourself into your newly installed Jetpack mobile app (That way, you will be able to find out firsthand if the Jetpack mobile app is right for you).

And, if by chance, the Jetpack mobile app is not your proverbial cup of tea, you can delete the Jetpack mobile app and log yourself back into your WordPress mobile app.

Dear friend, you are probably aware of the fact that you would be unable to utilize the Jetpack features; such as:

  • Stats
  • Notifications
  • Jetpack Social
  • Jetpack Backup
  • Jetpack Scan
  • Menus
  • People
  • Themes

All of those things are now stripped away from the WordPress mobile app.

You Are On The Self-Hosted Version Of WordPress

Many of us who blog on the WordPress-hosted version (which is WordPress.com) are unaware of the fact that the people who use the self-hosted version of WordPress (which is WordPress.org) are in no way obligated to use Jetpack (Besides, a freshly installed version of WordPress does not come with Jetpack).

Just in case you did not know, there are many alternatives to the Jetpack plugin; for example:

When it comes to the self-hosted version of WordPress (WordPress.org), bloggers have a very wide variety of plugins to choose from.

Final Thoughts

If you are one of those bloggers who are still using the WordPress mobile app, I would love to know your reason for doing so.

And, it has been brought to my attention that not all bloggers are open to the idea of using the Jetpack mobile app (And, that, in my opinion, is okay).

As bloggers, we have every right to use what we are comfortable with (Provided that what we want to use has not been discontinued).

I use Jetpack mobile app and it’s pretty much identical to the WordPress mobile app. At least before they stripped the WP mobile app of all the functionality you itemized in your post.
