Are Personal Bloggers Taking Their Blogs Too Seriously?

A lot of personal bloggers have been putting almost the same effort into blogging as those bloggers that blog professionally.

Is that a good thing?

Or, is that a bad thing?

Well, the truth is that personal bloggers have mixed feelings about this.

There is a group of personal bloggers who believe that personal blogging should be kept as simple as possible and that trying to implement the things that professional bloggers do with their blogs (for example, the application of On-Page and Off-Page SEO), takes the fun out of blogging.

Then there is another group of personal bloggers who believe that learning and applying the same things as professional bloggers (such as SEO and writing effective content) will enhance their personal blogs.

Now, the group of personal bloggers who believe that personal blogging should be kept as simple as possible will perceive the group of personal bloggers who operate their blogs in almost the same manner as professional bloggers, as taking their blogs too seriously.

The God’s/Goddess’s truth is that both groups of personal bloggers are entitled to run their blogs in the manner that they see fit.

Therefore, the group of personal bloggers that run their blogs almost in the same manner as professional bloggers do may not view their extra effort as taking their blogs too seriously.

Personal Blogging Has Come A Long Way

Back in 2008, personal blogging was extremely simple; they were diary-type posts that contained few words and pictures.

Today, it is possible for you to come across personal blogs that contain well-written and well-formatted blog posts with relevant professional grade-looking pictures; their appearance has a striking resemblance to those that are produced by professional bloggers.

Personal bloggers have the choice of presenting their blog posts in a slapped-together amateurish manner or a professional manner.

For the record, I am in no way insinuating that one is better than the other.

I am merely pinpointing the extra effort that some personal bloggers go through to make sure that their blog posts are presented in a professional manner.

Some Personal Bloggers Are Using SEO Plugins

If you thought that SEO plugins were only for professional bloggers, you would have to wipe that thought from your mind.

Why?

Because SEO plugins were created to be used by any blogger who wants their blog posts to rank well on search engines (And, there are personal bloggers who desire that sort of thing).

The truth is that there are personal bloggers who want their blog posts to be found by anyone who is conducting a search query via Google, Bing, Yandex, etcetera (The more eyes that they have on their blog posts, the happier they are).

There Are Personal Bloggers Who Take Spelling And Grammar Seriously

The truth is that most people would allow personal bloggers to get away with spelling and grammatical errors.

Whereas, most people would nail a professional blogger to the cross if they discovered spelling and grammatical errors in any of their blog posts.

These days, lots of personal bloggers are making a conscientious effort to ensure that their blog posts are devoid of spelling and grammatical errors.

Those who are weak in the areas of spelling and grammar are known to utilize:

A lot of personal bloggers believe that blog posts without any spelling or grammatical errors is the best kind to publish on their blogs.

Some Personal Bloggers Are Using Paid WordPress Themes

I have to admit that most of the paid WordPress themes are professional-looking.

Therefore, if a personal blogger wants his or her blog to stand out from the rest of the other personal blogs on WordPress, they may choose to purchase one of WordPress’s premium themes.

By the way, any WordPress blogger is free to purchase any one of WordPress’s premium themes if they dislike the way in which the free WordPress themes look.

Final Thoughts

Personal bloggers are entitled to treat their blogs in the same manner that professional bloggers treat their blogs.

Whereas, those personal bloggers who prefer the old-fashioned simplistic way of blogging are entitled to carry out their blogs in that type of manner.

However, it would be wrong to think that those personal bloggers who are going all the way out with their blogs are taking their blogs too seriously.

The God’s/Goddess’s truth is that every personal blogger on the face of the Earth is supposed to know what is appropriate for their own blog and act accordingly.

I believe every blogger should represent themselves appropriately – as in who they really are. I think when you are writing down your thoughts on a topic, you are also sharing a piece of yourself. Thatโ€™s what I enjoy about reading blogs. Even informational blogs seem more personal. Maybe itโ€™s the format – or the interactive community I like so much. Regardless of the level of โ€œprofessionalismโ€ a blogger chooses to post, I just hope the post truly tells me something about the author as well as the point they are trying to make. I love getting to know people – reading your blogs have been a real blessing. Peace and blessings to you my friend.

To be honest Renard, I hadn’t given much thought to whether or not others put more or less effort into their blogs; I’m just focused on what feels right for me. I dont think in terms of being professional or not, just being me, being authentic. We’ve discussed across various posts that there are lots of different types of blogs and bloggers, so it would make sense that how much detail we put into blogging will vary too. We are all unique … maybe we shouldn’t classify a blogger in terms if how laid back or professional they are ๐Ÿ˜

The whole message in my blog post boils down to personal bloggers adopting an approach to blogging that is right for them and that there is no such thing as a personal blogger taking their blogs too seriously.

Unless someone is getting paid to write… aren’t all blogs personal? I mean even if it’s an easy loaded with information… I feel as if all of us basically write what we know and leave clues about ourselves regardless of the intended purpose. I admit that blogs littered with spelling and grammar don’t tickle my fancy but I wish them well regardless. โค๏ธ

  9. Excellent observation and useful points Renard.During the first year of my blogging I was a bit serious about SEO, promoting posts in Other platforms, statistics and enthusiastically following advice from Gurus etc.
When I recollect this, I feel funny and realised how immature I was.
    Lesson learnt- just enjoy blogging.
    Don’t be too serious.
Don’t compete with professionals if you are having a personal blog.
There is so much else in one’s life!

    1. ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, if that approach works for you, then it is right for you.

Truthfully, it all depends on the personal blogger; they are the ones who will adopt an approach to blogging that is right for them.

There is nothing wrong with a personal blogger wanting to learn about SEO (And, they should not be prevented from learning SEO either).

Whereas, the personal blogger who wants to keep things as simple as possible should not be forced into learning SEO.

Personal bloggers are entitled to run their blogs as they see fit; whether it be a sophisticated it or a simplistic approach to blogging.

Always keep in mind, that what may be fun for a blogger might not be fun for another blogger.

  13. Great question here Renard. To answer it I would say Yes, there are personal bloggers who take their blogs seriously and that is a very good thing because when they become professional bloggers such as myself they won’t he facing too much issues such as using search engine optimization and plugins such as Jetpack and how they can pay for their domain names since all of these must be considered if you want to come aboard to the profession blogging field.

Personal bloggers and professional bloggers differ with one tiny detail: Monetizing a blog, I believe personal bloggers use free themes but when it comes to professional blogging the blogger must use a theme and pay for it thus choosing the right one is key and a tidy theme that screams professional and one the company will love. ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ™

  15. Most of the bloggers I see are personal bloggers. They wanted an escape, so they created a site, and now they are publishing regularly. I have seen many people who post diverse stuff, and I don’t thunk I can simply call them pastime writer. They are serious about it and putting quality content. Then, there are some pastime writers, who share random stuff, for the views.
Earlier, I wasn’t serious about it, Now I am. Like my major intention is to provide stuff that’s easy to understand. I make images, to make the reading experience fantastic. I am aiming to be a proffesional blogger, with a touch of togetherness.
