For some strange reason, a lot of people tend to think that their day is spoilt when it begins to rain outside.
And, there are people (like myself) who love the rain.
I was never fond of weather that was too hot and the rain has a way of bringing the temperature down (It might not be a drastic drop in the temperature, but it is enough to keep one from overheating).
Also, the day is not lost due to rainy weather (Unless you planned on doing some painting outdoors or some other type of work that requires dry weather conditions).
The good news is that we human beings are very innovative by nature; we can always find some interesting activity to partake in whenever it is raining outside.

1.) Peruse The Contents Of A Good Book
I love to read.
And, there are many people around the world who also love to read.
The majority of us own books (And, it is very hard to picture a household without books).
In addition to being entertained, reading helps to:
- Improve your concentration.
- Improve your memory.
- Stimulate your imagination.
- Boost your intelligence.
- Make you more empathetic.
- Make you more relaxed.
- Combat Alzheimer’s disease.
So, never hesitate to read a good book whenever it is raining outside.
Do you love to read?

2.) Watch Television
I told my readers, on a few occasions, that I would prefer to read a book than watch television; but that does not mean that watching television is an absolute waste of one’s time.
Television is a double-edged sword; it can make you smarter or it can make you dumber (It all depends on the type of programmes that you watch on television).
There is nothing wrong with watching an action movie, a comedy or a romantic show. But, do balance things off by watching educational programmes; such as documentaries.
And, I would also like to add, that a person should not spend excess hours watching television, because that would prevent them from doing other productive things during the day.
Therefore, television viewing should be done in moderation.
However, a person is free to watch television programmes whenever it is raining outside.
Do you watch television?

3.) Play An Old-Fashioned Board Game
In the good old days (the days before social media was a huge fad) people would play a board game with each other; here is a short list of those games:
Playing an old-fashioned board game is a great way to pass the time; especially when it is raining outside.
Do you have any old-fashioned board games at home?

4.) Catch Up On Some Blogging
Now, if you are a blogger, you can catch up on some blogging whenever it is raining outside.
We bloggers always have:
- Other blogs to visit.
- Blog posts to read.
- Blog posts to comment on.
- Blog posts to compose.
- Photos to edit for our blog posts.
It is as though a blogger’s job is never done. As soon as we are finished with one thing, we have to start another (It is a crazy never-ending cycle).
So, my friend, there is no shame whatsoever in catching up on some blogging whenever it is raining outside.

5.) Go In Bed And Sleep
Hitting the proverbial sack when it is raining outside is not a bad idea at all.
The temperature usually drops to a comfortable level when it is raining and the sound of raindrops on the roof of one’s house has a soothing effect.
And, I would boldly admit, that I love to sleep.
Also, sleeping has many beneficial health benefits; here are a few of them:
- Sleeping decreases our levels of stress.
- Sleeping reduces our risk of depression.
- Sleeping helps in the area of weight management.
- Sleeping improves our memory.
- Sleeping helps in the area of increasing our attention span.
So, do not feel guilty for wanting to take a nap whenever it rains.
Do you like to sleep?

6.) Prepare A Meal
Yes, my friend, you can prepare a meal in the comfort of your kitchen whenever it is raining outside.
Most of us love to consume hot meals on a rainy day; here is a short list of them:
- Vegetable soup.
- Mashed potatoes.
- Pasta and beans.
- Pizza with your favourite toppings.
- Vegan creamy corn chowder.
Now, the God’s/Goddess’ truth is that you are free to prepare any recipe (provided that you know how to prepare it) in the comfort of your kitchen.
And, if you happen to be one of those people who only orders out, because they do not know how to cook, you can find a recipe online and prepare it by following the instructions.
Warm meals on a rainy day are an absolute delight.
Do you enjoy cooking?

7.) Go Outside And Play In The Rain
Do you remember the fun you had as a child when you played in the rain?
Most people would remember those times.
I enjoyed playing in the rain and I remembered purposely jumping into puddles with the intentions of creating a huge splash.
Also, many years ago, people would come out in their numbers to play a game of football on the football field on a rainy day.
Back then, people enjoyed skidding in the mud and returning home with their clothing muddy.
I do not think that the parents and the housewives had a problem with their sons and husbands retuning home with clothing that was heavily soiled with mud, because laundry detergent was reasonably priced in those days.
In your case, you do not have to have to do anything that would get your clothing muddy.
You can go outside whenever it is raining and dance happily as the raindrops fall on your body or you could run around the house like a crazy person (Your neighbours might think that you have won the lottery or that have lost your mind).
Do you like playing in the rain?
Final Thoughts
Those are some of the things that we can do when it is raining outside.
And, what are some of the things that you like to do whenever it is raining?
Please feel to share them with me via my blog’s comments thread.
And, thank you for taking the time to visit Renard’s World.
I like it when it rains. The exception being if there is sonething I really need to do outside. Otherwise it’s cozy, it smells good snd keeps nature green… ๐

I am reading your post indoors, shaded from the sun on a super hot and humid afternoon. Yet I can imagine the sound of rain and the lovely smell of wet bricks/earth
I have always loved the rain even when it is cold.
Although I love doing all of the things that you have mentioned, my favourite rainy day activity is to just sit and watch it come down.
I love to read and my second favourite rainy day activity is to sit outside in the verandah with a good book and a cup of tea.
As for board games, my favourites as a child were
Snakes and Ladders
Chinese chequers
Scrabble.
I love how you have made your post super interactive by ending each point with a call to action. Don’t be annoyed if I copy your technique sometime.

๐ I am not going to be annoyed if you copied my technique.
I also like drinking hot tea when it rings as well; but it is usually done when I am reading the blog posts of others.
I also remembered playing Chinese chequers, Snakes and Ladders and Scrabble in my childhood.
And, thank you for your valuable input!

It’s the opposite of rain over here in Europe: an intense heat wave with no relief in sight. Other than that I can wholeheartedly agree, especially with the reading and the sleeping part. I have parted with my TV a few years back, though, because I felt it made me dummer by seducing me to watch stuff I would not have consciously chosen to watch. I now purposefully watch YouTube and Netflix videos and feel I make most out both of them.

Oh my, I guess we share similar traits. I love the rain too. Hot or harsh weather is not my thing. Great points, I love them all, I do engage myself in most of those things except when at work.

I enjoy sitting on the back porch with hubby and my two dogs and watch the birds flutter from one bird feeder to the next. There’s just something about the sound and smell of a clean, refreshing rain. North Carolina gets terribly hot and humid in the summer, so a rainy day or two or more is a much welcome treat.

It seems very fitting that as I’m reading this post it’s raining outside. Except it’s one of those types of rain that doesn’t make the temperature drop but rather raises the humidity levels to the point where if I go outside I’m not sure whether my clothes feel damp from sweat or the rain. There is something nice to be said about spending a quiet day indoors all snuggled up while it’s raining (and preferably thunderstorming) and just taking a minute to relax. All great suggestions on things to do while raining.
